Columbus-Muscogee Public Safety Complex
Columbus-Muscogee County
Columbus, Georgia
In programming the downtown Columbus facility, we worked extensively with team members from the City of Columbus and from each of the user departments. The 125,000 square foot Columbus Public Safety Complex unites both the Columbus Police Department and the Columbus Fire Department. The administrative and managerial departments of both organizations were consolidated, with additional space for the field personnel of the Police Department. The facility includes a cast-in-place concrete 500-car parking garage. The garage was constructed with brick veneer and precast concrete cladding to complement the design of the public safety building it serves.
The design proposed a water feature at the front entry as a gesture to the City of Columbus’City of Fountains. The stakeholders requested a design that would be sensitive to the surrounding historic fabric of downtown that would instill a continued source of civic pride for its citizens.
