Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport tIinternational Concourse "E"
Atlanta, Georgia
The 1.4 million square foot truncated cruciform facility was the largest international concourse in the world at the time of completion. It is designed to simultaneously load and process 24 wide body aircrafts and is configured for future expansions. There are three (3) levels for public access which comprised of upper level for inbound, immigration and sterile passageways, concourse level for boarding, food court & retail and baggage level for customs, baggage claim & recheck operations. The latter two (2) levels are connected to the automated people mover (APM) system providing connection to landside terminal and all other concourses.
We worked closely with the City’s Art Program which commissioned 24 Georgia artists – one (1) for each aircraft gate and freestanding sculptures which terminated vista views at end of three (3) wings of the complex. Additional, under the direction of the building’s designer, a team of artists was commissioned for a special 40 foot high sculpture rising from the APM level to the concourse level.
‘E’ Concourse has a dedicated chiller, boiler complex and electrical substation located in basement levels deep below the aircraft tarmac level.
