Historic Westside Village Atlanta Development Authority - Atlanta,Georgia
An important district in Atlanta is located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard formally known as Hunter Street and Ashby Street. It is known for its historic contribution to the national Civil Rights Movement and Atlanta’s African-American commercial existence during the 1940’s through the 1950’s. After desegregation, the area suffered economic hardship and became an eyesore to the surrounding community.
The 1 million square foot mixed-use development is also adjacent the Atlanta University Center thereby also playing a role in the future of the entrepreneurial advancement of our next generation of leaders. The programming and master plan for the revitalization of the area integrates the concept of ‘New Urbanism’ while maintaining the area’s historic lineage and its physical character. Westside Village will consist of offices, retail shops, housing, a hotel, movie theatres, a grocery store and parking structures. The Live/Work environment includes apartments, condominiums and town homes that blend well in the existing community.
